Communication is a powerful creative opportunity

Communication – listening and speaking– is one of the most fundamental and important aspects of our lives. How we listen to each other, how we speak, influences and impacts far more than our relationships, and accomplishments. It creates our experince and future. It creates our identity.

Almost every day we talk to others. We ask questions, we describe our activities and our health. We tell stories about what’s going onwe offer our thoughts and opinions, raise objections, comment, complain, challenge and compare. We share our hopes dreams and aspirations.

We have conversations in our families, at work, socially. We even talk to ourselves privately (and usually silently).

Communication is mostly a shared experience. If an experience is to be an enjoyable and worthwhile experience it will be more like a duet than a debate, more like a bridge than a battle. Speaker and listener(s) will be present, for and, to each other. The speaking will be sharing rather than point scoring, and the listening will be to genuinely hear rather than to prove a rightness/wrongness or score points
